All over Greece there is a diversity of beaches and natural setting which require some original way to access them. Such is Damialis beach; to access it, visitors have first of all to go at 1.5 km north of Kissamos where the church of Agios Yannis tou Damiali is located and follow the path that starts at its yard, morphs into an underpass that crosses the road and ends up on the beach. Upon arriving they face a small pebbly bay of deep crystal-clear waters and towering rocks, protected from the Northwest winds that sweep the area. An ideal location for those who want to enjoy a peaceful dip as there are hardly any structures bar a few trees, which cast a natural shade; therefore, visitors are required to pack any necessary supplies beforehand.

The dietary habits of today’s locals are close to those in ancient times, something that is documented by inscriptions on Linear B tablets regarding cheese, olive oil, honey, wine, herbs and spices, meats and grain. Its basic features are simplicity, sparsity, making use of local and seasonal produce, all cooked with imaginative variation. OLIVE OIL No matter where you land on Crete, be it high…
