The imposing Manganistra Gorge appears to pierce through the summits of Profitis Ilias and Kouvara; it is immense, giving the impression that the land wishes to rip the mountain apart. Its slopes are steep, rocky and quite hard to cross. It starts at the Limni summit and end up at Lousakies, some 3 km down. Crossing it is relatively hard because of the river passing through, which flows into the town of Kissamos; therefore, it is recommended to visit it in the summertime as the river runs dry. Its walls are stony and steep, hosting a slew of shrubs.
